A Better Way Blog

Awareness of My Ignorance

Jul 10, 2020, 6:48 PM

This blog post is about a topic that is different from what I usually focus on. As you all probably know, the killing of an African-American man named George Floyd by police officers has sparked renewed pain and outrage about racial injustice and the abuse of authority in America. This has reopened scars in the fabric of our society, at a time of deep division in our country along many fronts: politically, economically, and racially (among others).

God WANTS to Work For You!

May 2, 2020, 8:28 PM

No matter how many times I have this thought, it continually amazes me: God WANTS to work for me!! He wants to do the heavy lifting for all the tasks and activities of my business and ministry, because they lead to the fulfillment of the dreams and vision He’s put in my heart. In fact, He desires this even more than I do! This is the “almost too good to be true news” of the Gospel.

Walking Advertisements for Jesus

Apr 25, 2020, 5:27 PM

As I shared in last week’s blog post, the Divine Mandate for my life and A Better Way is “to manifest the goodness of God”. One of my guiding principles is to live and be the message of A Better Way, first and foremost in my own heart and life. This is why I place so much emphasis and value on personal testimonies. As I also said last week, the Holy Spirit showed me that we owe people our testimonies of God’s goodness. And in that regard, this week is certainly no exception!

What It's All About: God's Perfect Love

Apr 16, 2020, 8:39 PM

I recently had a conversation with someone very close to me, who is really struggling right now with feelings of self-worth, losing all sense of the good things about themselves; questioning whether or not they are a good person, if they deserve good things, and if they add value to anyone. I have been there myself on several occasions, and I am familiar with the “dark night of the soul”. This conversation presented a life-giving opportunity for me to minister from my heart to theirs. In the midst of so much recent preparation and activity in service of my God-given calling, this brought me back to the ultimate purpose of all that preparation and activity, and what it’s all about: personally experiencing and sharing God’s perfect love.

God Gives Answers, Not Tests

Apr 4, 2020, 7:16 AM

When things are difficult (such as this current time with the Coronavirus), I sometimes find myself thinking that God is giving a test. Awhile ago, though, I had this encouraging revelation: God gives us answers, not tests! I think the world, the flesh, and the enemy are responsible for most (if not all) of the tests that we undergo. It’s important for us to know that God is always on our side. Psalms 46:1-3 (NIV) says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging”.

Beacons of Light in the Darkness

Mar 21, 2020, 5:23 AM

In an atmosphere that is dominated right now by fear and uncertainty because of the Coronavirus, it is more important than ever that we as Believers in Jesus are filled with light and hope. When we receive this light and hope from God into our spirits, we can then share that with a world that so desperately needs it. The deeper the darkness and despair, the brighter the light and the more glorious the hope we manifest.

Grace is NOW

Dec 6, 2019, 9:08 PM

I'm in the final stages of editing my book right now, and I'm on a tight timeline. I've really had to lean into God's Grace throughout this process. Not only to accomplish the task; but more importantly, to be living from a place of Grace and rest in the process of writing a book about that very subject. As I've been considering the difference aspects of how I want to go about this editing process and what the ultimate product should look like, I've been concerned about the book being too long: word count, number of pages, number of chapters, etc.

Obstacles, or “Platforms of Increase”?

Nov 30, 2019, 1:26 AM

There are a lot of things going on in my life right now, especially in the past week or so. This includes a combination of what I perceive to be both blessings and challenges. But as I’m praying and journaling about all this right now, I feel the Lord is telling me they are actually one and the same. Similar to steps on a staircase leading one ever higher, what look like obstacles and difficulties could actually be “platforms of increase”.

Labor to Enter Rest

Nov 22, 2019, 11:16 PM

The title to this blog article may seem contradictory. How do we reconcile “labor” in the context of “rest”? The two seem mutually exclusive. Like much in the Kingdom of God, this is a paradox to our human minds. Yet this is exactly what the author of Hebrews emphatically urges us to do as Believers in Jesus: “Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief” (Hebrews 4:11, KJV).

Invest in Rest (Book Preview)

Nov 15, 2019, 8:28 PM

This blog article is an adapted excerpt from the synopsis of my upcoming book, A Better Way: Invest in Rest for God’s Best. God willing, it will be published February 1. One way you can “invest” right now is by sowing into the book launch project. As part of that, I’m having a book launch fundraiser event at my house TODAY (Saturday, November 16) from 11:30am-1:30pm (MST). You can also attend online via Livestream at this link during that time. See below for details and links!

Help Launch My Book!

Nov 9, 2019, 4:27 AM

This week’s blog post is definitely a little different from what you’re probably used to seeing (but hopefully no less inspiring!). It’s directly relevant to A Better Way, though, so I felt I needed to share it with you. As some of you already know, I am super excited about launching and publishing my first book! It’s called A Better Way: Invest in Rest for God’s Best, and it goes into more depth about everything you’ve come to know A Better Way to be about. You can learn more specific details about my book, as well as how you can partner with me in this, by visiting my GoFundMe page at this link:https://www.gofundme.com/f/betterwaybook First, though, I want to share more in-depth with you about this vision and assignment God has clearly put on my heart. [But for those of you who just want to “cut to the chase”, scroll to the bottom to see how you can support this book launch specifically through GIVING, SHARING, and PRAYING]

Practical Revelation from God's Word

Oct 19, 2019, 9:19 PM

The Word of God has untapped riches of practical wisdom and application. The Founder’s Bible contains a great example of this which comes from Mathew Maury, referred to as the “Father of Oceanography and Naval Meteorology”. He once read in Psalm 8:8 about the “pathways of the seas”, an idea he had never heard before which fascinated him to no end as a Naval Officer and man of the sea. By deeply meditating on this verse for a long time and believing what it said was true, he discovered the existence of oceanic currents and then later the jet stream. These have not only been groundbreaking scientific discoveries, but have also had profound bottom-line business and financial impacts. Furthermore, they’ve brought people to a deeper revelation of God’s majesty.

Suddenly!

Oct 12, 2019, 5:58 PM

Recently I was on a hike out here where I live in Colorado. This was at an altitude of 9,000+ feet so there was less oxygen, making it harder to breathe. Combined with the 5+ miles of walking and the further gain in altitude as the hike progressed, I was getting really tired towards the end. It was getting harder and harder just to keep putting one foot in front of the other as I got more weary from the journey.

Open Your Eyes!

Oct 3, 2019, 9:40 PM

I have a confession to make: lately I haven't been trusting God and cultivating rest in my own thought life. I spend so much time strategizing, thinking, and being concerned about the future that I'm missing out on a beautiful "gift" that's been given to me in the "present". This preoccupation about "what's next" has been blinding my vision to see and appreciate all the incredible blessings God has given me right now, right here. This week as I was sitting outside journaling in the stunningly beautiful scenery in my own backyard (literally), I became suddenly aware of what one of my mentors calls a "Blinding Glimpse of the Obvious" (or “BGO”).

Created to be Loved

Sep 27, 2019, 12:43 PM

For this blog post, I thought it would be good to start at the beginning of our story as human beings. Why do we exist? What is our purpose? This is something that has been a timeless topic for consideration and debate as long as humans have existed. Specifically, I want to address this from a theological or spiritual perspective. Why did God create human beings? What was His intention and desire for doing so?
